Do You Own a Library Card?

I know this may sound crazy, but I don’t have a library card. Sure, I’m 45 years old, and I’m also wondering how many of you have one, but in a short plight, one of my goals this year is to actually get off my but, go to my local library, and get a library card. I know this might sound crazy, what in this day and age of iPads, Kindles, and Half Price Bookstores, but as I have started reading every now and then, I have also heard how libraries are now offering the ability to “borrow” eBooks, where, for a short period of time you get to “check out” an eBook, kinda like renting a book for your Kindle only it’s free, and then, after a few weeks, they automatically “return” your book to their “shelves” so that the next person can “borrow” the book.

It sounds like an interesting concept, I do wonder why, sometimes I actually buy a Kindle book when I pay good money for it and find out it kind of sucks (And don’t get me started on the “Try a sample” concept where at times I’ve done that only to find that the sample ends maybe one page into the actual book, leaving me to only read a lousy introduction and maybe see who the book was dedicated to.

So, we’ll see how this goal for 2013 goes, and right now when I answer my plight question the “No” box will be clicked, but I’m plighting: Do you own a library card?

That’s it for this plight! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!

And here it is, our “Mid-Week Surprise” podcast. Okay, not really a surprise, but some equipment issues kept us from recording a normal “Weekend Wrap-Up,” but that doesn’t make the tales of our weekend old, just well-aged! Me, I spent a lot of time in a suit, a big, blue suit, and Stu Gotz tries to make it dirty, but I won’t let him. I tell Stu tales of good kids, bad kids, and sweatiness. Stu, meanwhile, is helping a Little Gotz make The Ten Commandments, or something out of Mesopotamia.

I tell Stu he should watch “Celebrity Apprentice,” Stu wishes “The Real Housewives of Disney” was a real TV show, we anticipate Apple’s event today announcing a new iPad and Stu’s next birthday gift, an Apple TV, Stu saw “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” and “Moneyball,” and I remind everyone about Daylight Saving Time this weekend!

It’s a mid-week special, it’s a podcast, and it looks like neither of us will go and see “John Carter” this weekend because the trailers don’t seem to make us want to.

Leap Day Oscar Talk, The Bachelor is Great, iPad 3 Specs, Cleaning Vomit, and Needing some Hard Wood.

No, this isn’t a special Leap Day podcast, it’s just our normal “Weekend Wrap-Up” a few days late because we were so mesmerized by The Academy Awards we were left speechless for a few days. But, here we are, with extended insight into the Oscars, including Stu’s thinking Sandra Bullock is getting old and his having a Muppet song stuck in his head, while me, I’m disappointed Ryan Seacrest doesn’t have a sense of humor and almost tweeted something mean about the Cirque de Soleil folks.

Movies a lot of people didn’t see aside, it wouldn’t be a podcast without TV talk, and I’m still sucked into Bachelor Ben and Courtney on The Bachelor while Stu is sucked into Breaking Bad. Stu had a sick Gotz, I ate Greek food, Stu saw Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and I give my analysis of what the new features will be with the unveiling of the iPad 3 next week. And, oh yea, Stu has a friend who needed hard wood this morning.

Chicago Blizzard Watch 2011, New TV Shows, New DVDs, New Movies, and Upcoming New iPads.

With the mother-of-all snowstorms bearing down, Stu Gotz and I are on "Chicago Blizzard Watch 2011" for this episode of the "Weekend Wrap-Up!" podcast, not that it might help you much, but at least Stu lets you know that if you have kids, "Open Season 3" might help them survive.

During this episode we talk a lot about the weather because, well, we live in the Chicago area, that and Mama Gotz might be trapped out of town, but we also do talk movies, congratulating Natalie Portman on her SAG award and wondering if it will mean an OSCAR for her, my previewing the release of "You Again" on DVD and Blu-ray on February 8th, Stu’s recommendation of "Open Season 3" as I mentioned earlier, and neither of us are too excited about "Sanctum" nor "The Roommate" opening this weekend. We also talk a bit about TV, with both of complaining about our non-TiVo DVR’s, Stu giving "Fairly Legal" one more episode, my really like "American Idol" and almost looking forward to "Mr. Sunshine," and both of us wondering who actually watched the Pro Bowl over the weekend.

I’m looking for the iPad 2, Stu is amazed at how thing the new iPod touches are, I’m wishing my BFF a speedy recovery from her cold, and for the utter enjoyment of it all, both of us sort of wish Carol Mosley Braun could somehow win the mayor’s race in Chicago, granted it would probably drive the city into a disaster zone but the soundbite vault could grow exponentially.

Thanks for listening!

A Teepee, Crappy Movies, Broccoli, iPads, and Sushi.

I was worried that Stu Gotz was kicked out of the Gotz household, but during this edition of our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, I find out that Stu just wanted to build a teepee! Yup, Stu is getting in touch with his American Indian heritage, even though he has none, and he put up a big ol’ wigwam in the Gotz yard. The kids love it, but I worry he doesn’t see the future picture of Mama Gotz saying “You’re sleeping in the teepee tonight!”, especially with Stu not being that great at negotiating skills with his kids involving a piece of broccoli and an iPad.

Neither of us saw a movie in the theater, but that didn’t stop us from catching up on DVD stuff with Stu and Mama Gotz watching “2012” and “Heartbreak Kid,” while I watched “My Life in Ruins” with my BFF, and both of us thought it was all over the place, and kind of stupid, although in her world it still wasn’t that bad because it was under two hours with a happy ending.

I ate Sushi, a Little Gotz ate broccoli, Stu didn’t watch TV, and I’m recommending “The Real Housewives of Washington D.C.” What has happened to me?

And, yes, I realize “Deep Impact” was an asteroid movie. The movie I was thinking about was “Dante’s Peak.”

Congrats to The W.G.N.!, iPad Touching, A Birthday Lunch Idea, TV Talk, and No Lyle Lovett

Congrats to The W.G.N. for graduating college, but sadly for me, as I tell Stu during our "Weekend Wrap-Up!" Podcast, is that The W.G.N.’s ceremony didn’t include Lyle Lovett getting an honorary degree so the only excitement for me, other than him graduating of course, was an annoying Asian lady with bad perfume who kept fanning herself. His graduating did give me a chance to actually see my "Make Me Smile" app on an iPad, and Stu and Mama Gotz also got to play with an iPad, too, but Stu was disappointed by the iPad’s lack of Java support so unfortunately it’s "No iPad for Mama Gotz" (she really needs Java, and Stu thinks Steve Jobs should get on the stick and implement it, not counting the fact that Mama Gotz couldn’t play Treasure Isle on Facebook because it doesn’t have Flash, either).

Technology aside, Stu saw a movie called "Gentlemen Broncos" via his Netflix and gives his rundown of the movie, and he is still liking the new Doctor Who, while I re-bailed on "Survivor" when Colby got booted, thankfully I suppose because I would have been pissed because Russell didn’t win again even though he may be the best Survivor player, ever, again.

Stu saw the Chicago Cubs and got the kids a bear, My BFF had a birthday which led Stu to a inform me of a failed opportunity for me to treat her to lunch at Fry’s Electronics, I’m cheering on Brett Michaels for the Celebrity Apprentice finale, and we both wonder who Holly Robinson Peete is.

Hot Tub Time Machine, No Miley Cyrus Love, Greedy People, and Fun Times in MI!

By: The Dude on the Right

During this episode of our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, Stu Gotz talks about his recent trip to the state that looks like a mitten, while I have clean balls. Okay, there isn’t that much ball talk, but the both of us did see “Hot Tub Time Machine” and think it is one, funny movie, especially if you lived through the 1980’s. Stu’s trip to Michigan wasn’t nearly as bad as he thought it might turn out to be, I got to witness greedy people at a business expo, and with Easter and the release of the Apple iPad coming up (I’ll let someone else fight about which is more important), Stu has special plans for his celebration.

Me, I tell Stu that things are pretty calm in The Dude world, the TV catching-up is nearly complete, and I’m not really looking forward to the new “Clash of the Titans” this weekend because I love the cheesiness of the original, and then we find out what Stu really thinks about Miley Cyrus because, well, she has a new movie, “The Last Song,” opening this weekend, too. Happy Easter to all of you Christians out there, Happy Passover to our Jewish listeners, and for the rest of you, heck, Happy April!

Thanks for listening!
