Men In Black II
A Movie Review

MPAA Rated - PG-13

It's 1:28 Long

A Review by
The Dude on the Right
Thank God for the talking dog, but even he became annoying after awhile. I’m talking about Frank, the pug with an attitude in "Men In Black II", because if it wasn’t for him, and even the Worms, this sequel just goes to show that sometimes you shouldn’t make a sequel.

Let get right to it…

For MIB II, Jay (Will Smith) is a lonely alien fighter with his best friend Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) back in civilian life and Ell (Linda Fiorentino) isn’t even in the movie because she went back to working in the morgue. But love might be in the air for Jay as Laura (Rosario Dawson) witnesses an alien killing, but Jay doesn’t zap her mind. Once again the story is the same – some small trinket is the key to saving the Earth, this time Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle) is the bad alien who wants it, but the only person who might know where the trinket is, much less save the world, is of course Kay. Sadly Kay is a civilian, having his mind blanked, but yes, leave it to the Men In Black people to have a device that can bring back the memories that were zapped. So Kay comes back, he doesn’t remember the trinket exactly but has left himself clues to figure it out, and, it’s time to kill some bad aliens again. Blah, blah, blah…

Why doesn’t a sequel work for "Men In Black?" Because what new element can you really add to keep the series fresh? Sure, you can add some newer, cooler aliens, you can give a talking pug a bigger role, even have the Worms carrying weapons, but the story can never be fresh like it was for the original. I take that back, maybe it could be fresh if the Men In Black had to travel to another world to save the Earth, but for this one it’s the same thing as before – Jay and Kay argue a lot but eventually kick alien ass, Kay zaps people’s minds while Jay gives them funny things to change their lives, and the aliens are funny-looking.

There are some cute lines, but for the most part it has all been done before. 2 stars out of 5 for "Men In Black II." You might as well just rent the original.

That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!
