For these movie reviews of “Miami Vice,” “Monster House,” and “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” The Dude on the Right has finally gotten off his ass and actually done some movie reviewing. He was disappointed with “Miami Vice,” liked “Monster House” but thought the 3-D thing needs some work, and doesn’t think you should really spend the movie money for “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” but it might make a fun DVD rental.

For this podcast, The Dude on the Right wishes his Mom a Happy 80th Birthday, wonders what is wrong with the City of Chicago Aldermen, and is still boggled because people are letting the FCC back-door censor a PBS program. The Dude also congratulates ExxonMobil because they really deserve it, and outside of the podcast, there are a few, new movie previews posted for your previewing pleasure.

I am very happy my mother celebrated her 80th birthday yesterday, but somewhat
sad I couldn’t be there for it. But what also makes me sad it I can’t find
a great caricature our resident artist did of my mom, my niece, and me, a bunch
of years ago, so I can’t post it here, yet. If I can find it, buried on
one of my back-up files of a back-up of an old hard drive, I’ll post it later. I also
found it odd that the City of Chicago folks are doing all they can to
drive businesses out of city, and maybe Target will actually
stick it to the aldermen, but sadly, that also means a lot of jobs lost for
people who really can use them, by closing some stores in the city.
But the other story really bugging me right now is about a
PBS documentary that might not air as originally intended for fear of getting
fined by the FCC. You want community standards, well, I’m thinking
community standards will say that veterans of World War II might drop a bad word
every now and then when they talk about getting shot at. But we’ve got to
save the children because Lord knows they aren’t using any of those words,
like shit or fuck. The good kids, like me, even at 39, know not to use
them in front of their parents, at least most of the time.
And, oh yea, congrats to the folks at
ExxonMobil! I’ll remember you when I’m filling up the Dude-Mobile with
some go-go juice tomorrow morning on my way to the Chicago Cubs game.

What’s New? More of the Dude’s CD’s: Orff, GWAR, and John Scofield.
The Dude on the Right is still trying to review all of the CD’s he has, and here are a few more. He’s got a great CD of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, done by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, his secretary was mostly worried that GWAR’s CD had giraffes in the lyrics, and he’s sort of sorry for giving the John Scofield CD a lower rating. The Dude on the Right still really doesn’t get jazz.
What’s New? Stu & The Dude’s Weekend Wrap-Up: Lots of Movie Talk, The Dude’s Fly Infestation, and Stu Gets Some Culture.
For this podcast of “Stu & The Dude’s Weekend Wrap-Up,” there’s a lot of movie talk about The Dude on the Right trying to see four movies over the weekend. The Dude only saw three, thanks to some flies and a girl named Whammy, and only got to review “Clerks II“ so far. Stu, on the other hand, got cultured and got to see two girls getting it on in a park. There was a marriage proposal this weekend, but The Dude still likes all of his stuff, and not just half of it, so he’s not getting married yet.

For this movie review of “Clerks II,” The Dude on the Right loved the movie, but will understand reasons why you might not. In any case he’s giving the movie his highest rating, 5 stars, partly because he sometimes likes the sentimental, understands people have to grow up, and one scene will live in his mind to give him laugh forever. And he also loved Jay’s t-shirt.

You know you want it, and here you got it – another enticing podcast of "Stu &
The Dude’s Weekend Wrap-Up." Stu gets things going right out of the chute,
asking me about my movie viewing of "My
Super Ex-Girlfriend," "Monster
House," "The
Lady in the Water," ,
and "Clerks
II." Sadly I missed "The Lady in the Water" thanks to a fly
infestation and having dinner with Whammy, but Stu was a little worried that
"Clerks II" only making upwards of $9+ million seemed kind of low, and I’m sure
Kevin Smith
would have loved for it to have made "Pirates‘"
money, but I reassured Stu that most of the movie folks associated with film
were probably pretty happy with the opening. Stu was able to get some
culture over the weekend, seeing "The
Unmentionables" at Chicago’s famed
Steppenwolf Theatre,
and also got to see two girls getting it on at the park.
I do apologize for the slight technical glitch in the podcast, it’s too
difficult to explain, and my niece is back to being my favorite niece. And
lastly, I’m still not getting married anytime soon, because I like all of my
stuff.

Three Movies in Two Days, but Flies and a Dinner Got in the Way. Only “Clerks II” Got Done.

I had a great plan, it was simply to see four movies in two days, those movies
being "Clerks
II," "My
Super Ex-Girlfriend," "Monster
House," and "The
Lady in the Water." In the immortal words of Meat Loaf, no, wait, he
was a little short of this, he only had "Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad." Me,
I had three out of four. But the bad part is this weekend, I was only able
to get one review done, and this might sound weird, but it was because of flies,
and I’ll also blame Whammy, but I suppose, really, it’s not her fault.
Nope, it was my fault asking her if she wanted to see a movie in 3-D with me
losing a couple of hours of valuable reviewing time, stuck at a great Italian
restaurant and great good, with interesting conversation as only Whammy seems to
come up with. In a nutshell, who the hell would try to set her up with a
"Metal-Head" and a hunter?
So this weekend that was supposed to be full of
movie reviews became about trying to see movies, killing a lot of flies, and
having some really good food, although I did get an offer Stu will wonder why I
turned it down. All I got done was one movie review, a lot of flies killed, and this blog.
Dammit, there were a lot of flies. And I still don’t know why.

The last podcast I did solo, well, I tried to keep it under 10 minutes, and came
pretty damn close. I did this specifically at the request of my sister and
my niece. What thanks do I get? – A slam from my niece. That being
written, for this podcast I give you some incite into the world of "Carmina
Burana" from Carl Orff, and discuss my plan for seeing four movies in two days,
namely "My
Super Ex-Girlfriend," "Monster
House," "The
Lady in the Water," (or as Ivan Reitman calls it, "The Chick in the Pool"),
and "Clerks
II." It’s a busy weekend for me. I was also happy to see
Comedy Central
re-run the South Park episode of "Trapped in a Closet" and I give a teary-eyed
discussion about my niece needing sensitivity training.
