The Scorpion King
A Movie Review

MPAA Rated - PG-13

It's 1:32 Long

A Review by
The Dude on the Right
It simply comes down to this… Dad says "That was cheesy." Ten year old son says "I liked it." Such is "The Scorpion King."

Built upon the popularity of The Rock in "The Mummy Returns," it was easy to see a movie about the Scorpion King. The race is on for the next action hero – Vin Diesel or The Rock, and The Rock has a jump-start.

In "The Scorpion King" we get The Rock as, basically, a hit man name Mathayus. He and his crew are hired to kill The Sorceress, a dudette feeding battle information to the mean and nasty King, Memnon (Steven Brand.) Well, yea, you can guess it, Mathayus and The Sorceress hook up, eventually fall for each other, and now it’s a challenge for Mathayus to bring his buddies, led by the ever imposing Balthazar (Michael Clarke Duncan), to invade the kingdom of Memnon, kick his ass, and lead the people to years of peace.

Do you really need to know anything more than this? Do you really need to know if The Rock is a great actor? Do you really need to know if "The Scorpion King" is really a good movie? Please. All you want to know is if The Rock kicks some ass, and that he does.

This is one of those movies you probably know what to expect from the get-go. It’s a little less mystical than The Mummy series, with The Sorceress being the only mystical person, the rest being can the good guys beat the bad guys. You can figure out the ending, but that doesn’t matter because "The Scorpion King" is just a bunch of fun if you let it.

I’ll give "The Scorpion King" 3 ½ stars out of 5. Not the greatest of films, but just entertaining if you don’t take it seriously.

That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!
