Well, for a change, this year the Golden Globes might have some
actual musicals to nominate in the “Musicals or Comedy” category, or
at least musicals some people may have actually seen, because this
year we are getting the likes of “Rent,” and also
“The Producers.”
Anyway, for “Rent” we get the screen adaptation of the Broadway
musical of an eclectic group of folks living in New York, and what
happens in a year in their life. I never saw the touring version of
the musical when it came through Chicago, but lots of folks think it
is great, think the music is great, and although I can like a good
musical, what’s pissing me off is that damn “Seasons of Love” song
because I can’t get that “525,600 minutes” phrase out of my head.
It’s already got a huge following, so my guess is the movie will
do well no matter what. I’ll try to catch it, and will probably be
humming that damn song when it plays during the movie. If that
happens, or I'm humming a different song as I leave the theater, I'm
automatically going to deduct one star from my rating.
