A Review by

Looking for a fantastic action flick where Uma Thurman looks hot? Go and see "Kill Bill Vol. 1" Looking for a decent action flick where Uma Thurman looks hot? Go and see "Paycheck." Oh, and if you’re a dudette reading this, "Paycheck" also has Ben Affleck if he’s your cup of tea.

Like I said, "Paycheck" is a decent action movie, with some nice twists and turns, but nothing to really write home about. The story kinda goes like this…

Ben Affleck plays Michael Jennings. He is an engineer whose main talent is to take proprietary things that others have developed, figure out how they developed them, change them just enough so the competing company doesn’t get in trouble, and collect his paycheck. The catch is that in order to collect the money, and so he can’t get the company in trouble for essentially stealing someone else’s technology, he gets his memory erased from the time he took the job to the time he gets paid. This mind erasing is done by his buddy Shorty (Paul Giamatti). Well, his other pal, Rethrick (Aaron Eckhart) has another job for Michael only this job will take about three years but net Jennings tens of millions of dollars. Michael’s up for the task, except this time Rethrick and the bad boys at Allcom take care of the memory erasure. So, during the three years Michael makes this device that can control the world, falls in love with biochemist Rachel Porter (Uma Thruman), and then ends up back in the real world with no memory of it. He’s off to convert his 80+ million dollars worth of stock into some walking cash, when, lo and behold, he discovers he gave up his stock and sent himself 19 miscellaneous items for no apparent reason. Now the only enjoyable and fun part of the movie takes place – figuring out how each of those 19 items fits into getting Michael and Rachel out of various jams to escape the bad guys trying to kill them. And that’s really all you need to know about the plot.

Pretty much this is standard John Woo fare, with chases and people kicking the crap out of each other, and probably would have pretty much been just a la-de-da action movie if it weren’t for the entertainment value of Affleck playing a dopey scientist very well and Uma Thurman being able to transform the nerdy biochemist into a kick-ass dudette.

Just try to expect some fun from this film, go ahead and try to figure out why he sent himself the certain items (although the bus pass is a pretty easy one to figure out), and don’t try to make it into anything else than it is – a decent action flick. It’s 3 stars out of 5 for "Paycheck."

That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!
