Demi Moore in a movie named Striptease? "Now
that's a movie for me!!!" I thought when I saw the previews.
Hard as I tried I never got the chance to see the movie when it was
in the theaters, so when I saw it on the shelves at my local video
store I pulled it off with glee. After making a quick stop at a
convince store to pick up a box of Kleenex I headed home to pop my
video treasure into the ol' VCR. Boy, let me tell you what this
movie did for me! It did... Absolute-a-fucking-nothing for me! I
want my $3.25 back for this rental!
Striptease is a movie that tries to be smart. It's a movie that
tries to be sexy. It even tried to be funny. What this movie should
have tried was to have a story line - that and better writing and
acting would have helped. Actually, all the acting wasn't that bad.
Ving Rhames (remember Marsallus from Pulp Fiction?) plays Shad. Shad
is a bouncer at the club Demi strips, er ahh, "dances" at,
and he is one bad MF'er.
Striptease is a movie with an identity crises. Was it trying to
be a comedy or a drama? It tried to be both and failed miserably at
it. I don't know if it was bad writing or directing, but I will say
the editor should be shot! The movie jumped from seriousness, to
wit, to strippers. "Jumped" is the operative word because
this movie did not flow well. Striptease is a movie not worthy of
the big screen and if I were you I'd pass it up on the video isle. I
don't even want to waste my time by writing, or your time by
reading, what this movie was all about. But... My editor insists
that I should try to share a little of the story with you. Here it
goes ...
Erin married a pill popping asshole and eventually divorced the
jerk-off. When the FBI, for whom she was a secretary for, found out
about her husband's past, she got canned. Because she had no job she
lost custody of her daughter to her slime-ball thief of a husband.
In order to make money, for the appeal, she dances at a gentleman's
club. There she gets caught up in a scheme to black-mail a
congressman and people start showing up dead. In the end the
congressman goes to jail and she gets her kid back. Now is that not
perfect for a day time TV talk show, or a movie of the week, or
what?
This movie has no redeeming qualities (even with the strippers)
so I give Striptease a BIG HONK'N zero out of five and I'm a pissed
off Stu Gotz!!! |
