Happy Gilmore
A Movie/Video Review

MPAA Rated - PG-13

It's 1:32 Long

A Review by
Stu Gotz
What makes Adam Sandler so funny? From his days at Saturday Night Live to his last movie Billy Madison, Adam has always cracked me up. So it was with great anticipation that I rented his latest video, Happy Gilmore (why are all his movies named after the main character?).

Anyway, about the movie... I laughed from the beginning to the end!!! Adam plays a guy named Happy who wants to be a hockey player. Happy is a first class hockey goon (like Stu Grimson), has a tremendous slap-shot, but can't skate to save his life. One day, on a chance bet, he drives a golf ball over 400 yards to win $40. This gives him the idea to go hustle money at a driving range. While there he is spotted by a golf pro who persuades him to enter the local tournament. The winner of the tournament gets invited to join the pro tour and can make a lot of money. Happy is a hockey player and doesn't know a thing about golf, but he needs the money for his grandmother, so, he reluctantly enters the tournament, wins, and joins the pro tour.

Now remember, Happy knows nothing about golf etiquette and his floundering through the tour is hilarious. From jumping in the water to go after a douched ball, to punching out Bob Barker at a Pro-Celebrity game, Happy shows no knowledge of or respect for the gentleman's game of golf (as any good south-side hockey playing blue collar guy should). Of course there is a babe in the movie, and Happy gets her in the end after winning the tour.

Happy Gilmore is a funny movie. It's OK to watch with the kiddies because there is no sex or swearing. Well... actually Happy does swear a lot. When Happy shanks a shot on Tour, he spazzes out and his verbal barrage is bleeped out on national television. I almost wet my pants! Like I said... this movie is OK to watch with the kiddies, bring over the guys and open a cold one, or snuggle on your couch with your favorite girl. I give Happy Gilmore 4 out of 5.

I'm Stu Gotz. 'nuff said.
