A Review by
The Dude on the Right
I didn't read too many good things about "Holy Man," and I didn't see the movie in the theater, but you know what - I think the movie makes a good rental for both parents and kids alike.

Eddie Murphy is the star of the video. He plays "G." Yea, that's right, simply "G." Does that mean he plays God? Well, for that you've got to make your own conclusion by the end of the movie, but basically the story goes like this:

Ricky (Jeff Goldblum in a role better made for him than as the scientist dude in his other films) is a TV executive for a home shopping channel. Ratings are falling and his job is in jeopardy, so the big boss calls in Kate (Kelly Preston) to give some suggestions. As fate would have it Ricky and Kate are driving, get a flat, can't use their cell phone to ask for help, and in walks "G." "G" comes off as a spiritual dude, and after Ricky almost runs over him sending "G" to the hospital, well, "G", with no money, ends up at Ricky's place, overtakes a party allowing Ricky to see his new product spokesman for the shopping channel, and takes the shopping world by storm. Oh yea, Ricky likes Kate, and, this being a family movie, well, you can probably guess how the rest might turn out.

Murphy isn't over the top which might surprise a lot of people. For this role his humor is subtle and implied. For the kids, well, they won't get a lot of the adult jokes ("The 'G' Spot") for example, but, as my dad says, "the movie is cute and doesn't have sex nor swearing." You've got a love story, you've got some lessons about living, and just a nice movie that you won't get embarrassed watching in front of your kids.

As a movie in the theaters I can't comment, but as a video I give "Holy Man" a solid 3 stars out of 5. There was room for improvement, but just a nice movie to watch.

That's it for this one, I'm The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!
