I won't explain why, but I may never look at a chocolate frosted cake the same way ever again. In any case the movie is "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," and Kevin Smith is back with some of his normal cast of characters, some extras, and a lot of laughs, especially if you like them in a raunchy, romantic, making a porno out of shear necessity kind of way. Here are the story basics...

Seth Rogen is Zack and Elizabeth Banks is Miri. They have been lifelong friends, are living platonically together, and fine, so I'm giving something away, but if you can't guess that somehow Zack and Miri love each other and end up together from the opening scene, well, why are you watching movies, anyway? Anyway they both haven't excelled much in the ten years from high school, but it's time for their reunion and Zack's goal is to try to sleep with anyone who will have him, while Miri is dead set on making the moves on the football jock she always "loved." As things go, they are also out of money for their water bill, the electric bill, and are looking to get booted for not paying their rent, but due to some career paths people in the high school class have chosen, the decision is made that to get their lives out of debt and back on solid footing, well, they could make a porno together, which already has a built in fan-base thanks to an earlier YouTube video of Miri in her Granny Panties.

Enlisting the "producing" help of coworker Delaney (Craig Robinson), suddenly a rag-tag group of people, including Jason Mewes as Lester and Traci Lords as Bubbles, embark on making "Star Whores," only to see their hopes and dreams destroyed with a morning wrecking crew.  Not to be dismayed, Zack comes up with a coffee shop themed porn for the crew to make, and as filmmaking, sex, and blatant nudity go on, sure enough the Zack/Miri story builds to a head, interferes with the movie production, but this is a romantic comedy, albeit a raunchy romantic comedy, so in the end our couple gets together, okay, actually get together again, the porno gets made, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Sure, things aren't that simple, but this is a Kevin Smith movie through and through, in every sense of the rated "R" way, so if you are easily offended, especially by nudity, foul language, or seeing your Mac guy as a gay dude, you had better stay away.  Me, I'm not offended by any of those things, and love Kevin Smith's style of humor, so I loved "Zack and Miri Make a Porno." The acting is just enough of what you need for this kind of movie, but kudos to Jason Mewes ratcheting things up a notch while even Brandon Routh, yup, that's right, Superman, has a fun role.

Some people, including my BFF, seemed to be getting turned off by the "Make a Porno" part of the title, but really, at its core, this movie is a romantic comedy. Sure, it's a romantic comedy where we learn what a "Dutch rudder" is, but it's still a romantic comedy.

I loved this movie, and with Kevin Smith being involved, I so can't wait for the unrated DVD version of this movie to see what his original vision for this movie was, knowing it was probably hacked to shreds by the ratings folks. In any case, for me it's 4 1/2 stars out of 5 for "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," even if I may never eat a chocolate, frosted cake ever again.

That's it for this one!  I'm The Dude on the Right!!  L8R!!!
