Just My Luck
A Movie Review

MPAA Rated - PG-13

It's 1:48 Long

A Review by
The Dude on the Right
Hello. My name is The Dude on the Right, and I am a Lindsay Lohan fan. There, I’ve said it. The first step to supposed recovery is admitting you have a problem. I don’t know why, maybe it’s the train wreck that is sometimes her life, maybe it’s the fact that I think she has potential as an actress (I did like her in "Mean Girls"), or maybe it’s her, oh, never mind. For whatever a reason, I am a fan. Yes, even after "Just My Luck." No, the movie isn’t horrible, it’s just that, well, it isn’t good either. Let’s get to it…

There have been tons of movies that, for whatever mystical reason, father and son swap bodies, mom and daughter swap bodies, dad and dog swap bodies, and for "Just My Luck," well, the uber-lucky Ashley (Lindsay Lohan) swaps her luck with the uber-unlucky Jake (Chris Pine), after she makes out with the dude at a masquerade ball. Yup, Ashley’s life which has been filled with good fortune after good fortune is now turned into a complete mess, while Jake, whose life was a complete mess, suddenly becomes filled with endless opportunity, especially for the unknown band he is managing, McFly.

So Ashley is perplexed where her luck went, until the psychic lady makes her realize it was the dude at the ball who took her luck away. But Ashley doesn’t know who the dude is, and low and behold, Jake doesn’t know who Ashley is, but when he sees a girl down on her luck, namely Ashley, he tries to help her out by getting her a job at the bowling alley he used to work at, and slowly they fall in love.

Ah, will Ashley be selfish and kiss Jake to get her luck back even though her life is going pretty well even being unlucky? Will Ashley then kiss Jake again to give her luck back to Jake because she feels guilty? And who ends up with the luck in the end? So many questions, so little time.

Anyway, "Just My Luck" is a pretty dorky movie, as most "swapping powers" movies tend to be, but I did grin some towards the end of the movie, there were some funny moments, and I will say that I do like the rain. Lindsay does fine in pretty much a throwaway role, Jake is okay enough as the unlucky dude turned lucky dude trying to hit on the unlucky dudette, and you will get exactly what you will probably expect if you saw the trailers for this movie and head to your local gigaplex.

In the end I’m giving "Just My Luck" 2 stars out of 5. I can’t even say that there was really any potential for more than that, but because of my Lindsay Lohan addiction I had to see this movie.

That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!
