Jennifer's Body
A Movie/DVD Review

A Review by
The Dude on the Right
This will be sort of a hard movie to review and not give away any spoilers other than that fact that Megan Fox is hot in it, but I'll try.  I guess I'll just start with you shouldn't try to sacrifice a virgin.  Oops, sorry, I gave a little bit away.

Anywho, Megan Fox is outside of the safety and security of her "Transformers" blanket, starring in a movie that is part "teen girls being mean" and horror film, but then again, those can be one in the same.  For "Jennifer's Body," however, we open to find Needy (Amanda Seyfried) in a mental hospital, able to kick the staff across the room and lamenting how she ended up there.  As the story goes, she was friends with Jennifer (Fox), and wouldn't you know it, Jennifer was not the goody two-shoes no one wants her to be.  Somehow there is a band looking to make it big, somehow there is a fire, somehow Jennifer disappears but then comes back covered in blood, and now, somehow, Jennifer tends to want to feed on the boys in the little town, with her mouth looking like a cross of the creature from "Alien" and a piranha. Meanwhile, her and Needy, being BFF's and all, seem to also be connected in a weird, girl kind of way.

Of course the town is freaked when the boys start dying, Needy is freaked out when she starts to figure out why, but luckily for Needy she ends up sleeping with her boyfriend, Chip (Johnny Simmons), before the mystery is solved because, well, it sucks when your BFF is jealous.

Look, as much as "Jennifer's Body" seems to try to be different, wacky, or otherwise scary, the movie just comes across as generic in the realm of teen horror flicks, with most people probably catching the flick simply because A) Megan Fox is hot, or 2) They just want some kind of horror fix and what the hell, Megan Fox is hot.  There is copious blood spewing, there is hovering, there is some ritualizing, there is this whirlpool in town, and there is some really happy wildlife in "Jennifer's Body," but what there really isn't is a movie that decides whether or not it wants to go the serious horror movie way or comedic horror movie way, and it just kind of floats along until we find that maybe you don't really want to be a member of a band.

Get "Jennifer's Body" for what it is, mostly, and that is a vehicle to show off Megan Fox's hotness, and you will also get some decent gore and some cheesy lines, too.  In the end it's nothing special, maybe fun for a late-night get together of the 18 year old BFF's to scream when the blood flies or get all giggly at the hunky dude, so I suppose I'll just give the movie 2 1/2 stars out of 5 for being just another horror movie.

As far as the Blu-ray and extras, there was actually a deleted scene I liked, the one extending the ending where Needy comes into Jennifer's room.  The gag reel isn't really gaggy, but probably the most extensive thing, and actually neat in a movie-making kind of way, is "The Dead Pool" extra, detailing how the scene, towards the end, in the creepy pool was made.  The video diaries are, well, I suppose it's nice there are some other extras on for the DVD, but they really don't help too much.  Okay, I admit, I didn't watch all of the video diaries because, well, I didn't, but Amanda Seyfried's was okay as it was going along.  And yes, the Blu-ray does have an extra simply called “Megan Fox is HOT” because, well, why not?

That’s it for this one!  I’m The Dude on the Right!!  L8R!!!
