Right Back at Ya
Michael Stanley Band
A CD Review |

 |
Growing up in Ohio in the 70’s and 80’s, there was no
band larger than the Michael Stanley Band. Most of the rest
of the country didn’t really know who they were, although
they did have a couple of videos on MTV back when MTV played
only videos, but for people around Cleveland, they were THE
band. I try to keep on top of how things are going for the
boys at
www.michaelstanley.com, but the odd thing for me is
that although they are one of my top five musical acts of
all time, I’ve never seen them, nor Michael Stanley, live.
Hopefully this will change, but for now, all I have are
their CD’s and albums.
Anyway, when the Michael Stanley Band catalog began to be
released on CD, I pretty much started snapping them up
whenever I could. A treat was the release of “Right Back at
Ya” because if you wanted to know what the band was all
about, and how they changed through the years, this is the
CD. With that Midwestern rock sound the hinged a little on
Springsteen, Seger, the Eagles, with a great mix of
keyboard, rock and roll guitar, and sax, this CD shows it
all. You get “Rosewood Bitters”, which yes, was also
recorded by Joe Walsh, but written by Michael, “Midwest
Midnight” which has one of the best lyrics about the
recording industry “Chasing the fame keeps them all in the
game, but money’s still the way they keep score,” and
another classic lyric in “Lover” with the likes of “Thank
God for the men who put the white line on the highway.”
If you are a fan of rock and roll and don’t know who the
Michael Stanley Band is, I suggest you check them out. This
is a great sample of what they are about, and it’s easily a
100% on the Entertainment Ave! listenability scale.
That’s it for this quick review! I’m The Dude on the
