So I'm watching VHI the other day, because it seems
MTV doesn't play video's in between episodes of The Real World,
Singled Out, or Road Rules anymore, and this little blonde is
singing about how she'll "love you always forever" (if a
double negative is a positive then would a double positive be a
negative and thereby what she is really trying to say is "see
you later Charlie"). She's cute and has a cool pop song. Hey,
what better reason to cruise by my local Best Buy (why pay more?)
and pick up her CD. After giving the CD a good hard listen over
three days I concluded that I should have bought the single for
$5.99 instead of the whole CD for $12.99.
Donna's music is a little too over produced and utilizes far too
much programmed music for my liking. If I had to describe her music
I call it a cross between Tiffany and Maria Carey with a New
Age/Midi edge. I hate computer geek music and Tiffany was worthless
(except for sexual fantasies) so, basically, this CD isn't all that
great. Of the 11 tracks on the CD, I really only enjoyed the pop-ish
"I Love You Always Forever," the Stevi Nicks-esk
"Fools Paradise" where Donna actually hints at vocal
range, the piano accompanied "Silent World," and a New-Age
with horns remix of "I Love You Always Forever."
Hmmm... Four out of eleven tracks are OK and two of those tracks
are the same song. Sorry Donna. You may be cute but I cannot
recommend a CD based upon looks alone. I really don't predict good
things for this CD or Donna Lewis for that matter. Then again I
wasn't thrilled with Jewel's CD but after seeing her in concert I've
become a devoted fan. Maybe Donna is better in person and deserves
to make it. I just know I'm not too impressed so far. I hope if
Atlantic Records gives Donna Lewis another chance at recording
she'll take it and get a little raw and loose some of her computer
toys.
I give Donna Lewis' "Now. In A Minute" a 50% on the
