Did You Ever Play Farmville?

Farmville 2 has hit the Facebook universe, and I know Zynga is really hoping it brings some gusto back to it’s brand, but I have to say that other than the characters being cute, and the 3-D is nice and all but a little slow, I quickly “unplugged” the app from my Facebook account after about 5 minutes of playing and probably won’t be back. Not a good sign.

I was a big Zynga guy. From Farmville to the Cafe game, from Cityville to Empires and Allies, and from Cityville to Castleville, I’ve wasted countless hours collecting crops and trying to expand my “Ville” or fight the “enemy,” only to get frustrated by the increasing need to “add neighbors,” and not wanting to add people I really didn’t know to my friend’s list. Being selective left an instant stall in how big I could grow things, and eventually led to many thoughts of “Why am I wasting my time with this?” Luckily I never got into the “buying coins” thing, although I do admit I did buy a Zynga gift card as a gift for someone, but that was about it.

I do have to say that as my Facebook world has shifted from my laptop to my iPhone that the Facebook game thing has faded quite a bit for me, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still a Zynga user as I can be a Words With Friends kind of guy, and still like it when the Scramble game gives me some fanfare when I get lucky and defeat my wife, but still wonder at their decision to buy Draw Something as that game quickly got old with its insistence on “buying” just about everything. I did try the Farmville thing on my iPhone with their app, and I think I would have gotten sucked in had I found it early on in my Zynga love, but by the time it hit I had come to my senses and figured my life would be better lived if I didn’t waste me time building a virtual farm that would only leave me sad that I didn’t have any friends.

In any case, with Farmville 2 now out, my daily plight reflects back to the original: Did you ever play Farmville?

Stu is Lonely, A Non-Weekend for The Dude, A Nose Flute, No Skin Flutes, Government Spending, and No Swearing (sort of).

As our weekends weren’t that eventful, it even surprises me that Stu Gotz and I could still have a “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast, but we do, and we talk about a lot of things that we would have liked to have done this weekend, namely Stu didn’t see “Furry Vengence,” and we both wonder why “Iron Man 2” opened internationally before it opens here in the States next weekend.  Or is it this weekend.  I don’t know, I always get that confused.

Me, I do have excitement with my nose flute, not to be confused with a skin flute, and I ponder to Stu about how our government is spending money stupidly by putting in sidewalks, and Stu, well, he was solo with the kids over the weekend and even though Mama Gotz was away, Stu didn’t really play.

Some congratulations are in order to The Dude on the Left and Trash about their upcoming nuptials, but my BFF seems confused about how Stu and I seem to be great friends with people yet don’t know what is going on with them.

And continuing on, Stu has become a Treasure Isle maverick while I analyze my Zynga love, and then the podcast takes a bad turn as I mis-name my nose flute, Stu gets fixated on the girls in Chuck and Doctor Who, and I can’t blame Stu for my slip of the tongue – it’s my own darn fault.

All of that and more, if all of that’s not enough. Thanks for listening!

The C-Word, The Blackhawks, The Treasure Isle, The Kick-Ass, The Great Lake Pizza, and The More!

Hide the kids, put on the headphones, and don’t play this “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast at work because Stu Gotz can’t stand a star that is dancing (psst, it’s Kate Gosselin) and uses language that only an 11 year old girl would use, that is if the 11 year old girl was in a movie called “Kick-Ass.” Me, I tell Stu some of the words that the 11 year old girl uses, and also if the movie is any good (I loved it). Also along the movie front, Stu, for reasons I’m still not sure, watched “The Yearling” with Gregory Peck and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, and I’m really getting worried about Stu.

We also chat a bit about the Chicago Blackhawks as they are in the race for The Stanley Cup, Stu gives his “expert” opinion about Ke$ha while I explain my desire to be a Ke$ha back-up dancer, I fill Stu in on a pizza joint in Chicago called Great Lake that has the “best” pizza in America (somehow I compare it to seeing an artsy movie), both of us are now addicted to Zynga’s latest Facebook creation, Treasure Isle, and I wonder if Stu, being the dive-dork that he is, has seen the video of the octopus that stole some dude’s camera that is propogating the Twitter universe (hey, go ahead and follow me at @dudeonright). Also, there’s a dirty Starbuck’s bathroom, and it’s in the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago in case you want to avoid it.

All of that and more, if all of that’s not enough. Thanks for listening!

Vegas, Easter, Cubs, Movies, and Treasure Isle is Evil!

After a one week hiatus, Stu Gotz and I are back for our “Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast. Yup, Stu needed some time away for Easter, and nothing says Easter like taking the Gotz kids to Las Vegas. Me, I just needed a break while I finished up some iPhone app stuff. So we’re back, and Stu was pleased at the version of “Viva Las Vegas” that I found, by the one and only Pirahna Man who used to be heard when Jonathan Brandmeier was on the air here in Chicago. But the podcast isn’t all fun and games. Well, actually it’s mostly fun and games, and also my quick review of “Pirate Radio” that comes out on DVD in prep for my full review later. Stu finally got to see “Up In The Air,” the George Clooney movie, and I watched golf for a change, and it wasn’t just because of Tiger Woods.

And speaking of TV, I tell Stu if “Celebrity Apprentice” is getting any good, Stu was pleased to find that he can now stream Netflix via his Wii, and Stu’s latest TV recommendation is “Supernatural.

Stu tells about a concert coming to the Chicago area, I let Stu know that the latest Zynga Facebook game, “Treasure Isle” is evil because it mixes elements of Farmville and Mafia Wars, and Stu is upset because the school his kids go to seem to be White Sox fans. All of that an more after our hiatus, and it’s good to be back!

Thanks for listening!
