A Special Guest Podcaster, The WGN, Joins for TV, Comedian, Gun, and Socially Inept Talk!

By: The Dude on the Right
Gosh, it is so much easier to do a podcast when you've got someone to talk to, so, via the magic of Skype, I am thrilled to have the WGN (World's Greatest Nephew) back to join me for this Thursday's podcast, and with his new headset and him plugged into his Mac, things are sounding a hell of a lot better than the last time we tried this.  For this podcast I introduce my nephew to the magic of "America's Got Talent," and am happy to hear that the boy, who actually isn't a boy anymore, loves George Carlin, even having some of Mr. Carlin's material on his iPod.  My nephew is pretty cool, isn't he, and he reads, too!

We talk some Texas, how my Nephew has a job at a law firm, has shot a gun even though I haven't (which is topical with the Supreme Court ruling today), and how I probably can't help with his GF's accounting class.  I do my best to explain the differences between our family gatherings and my BFF's family gatherings to him, and even though my nephew was -4 when Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" came out, he knew of the band, and he also regales his story of seeing Radiohead, which I hope to see at Lollapalooza, maybe even with my nephew as the guest reviewer!

And lastly my nephew might have ruined me by suggesting a game, "Dolphin Olympics 2."  You will know that has happened if I don't have any new posting for a couple of weeks.

I hope you have fun seeing "Wall-E" this weekend (especially if you have kids), or catch "Wanted," or just have fun.

Happy listening!

A "The Swell Season" Preview, Meeting Family, The Bachelorette, and Missing "Nessun Dorma" on "America's Got Talent."

By: The Dude on the Right
My nephew might be a guest podcaster guest next week, but today I'm flying solo for this podcast where I talk about seeing an Oscar winning group called "The Swell Season," with the likes of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the duo from the movie "Once," as I try to get back into the concert reviewing scene.  And what a great concert it was, and as the folks are leaving the show, what better song than "Love Me Sexy" by Jackie Moon to lead people into the night.

The full review for that concert will be coming soon, but this podcast also lets me trepidate about seeing most of the balance of the family of my BFF (I hope the first half of the family will have my back!), I think I have some ideas about how to have my BFF visit the old country to visit my family, and I'm probably one of the few people left watching "The Bachelorette," but I'm so wishing one of the dudes would just star crying instead of the dudette.

I also can't figure out how I missed "America's Got Talent," especially, since, during the premier for the summer, they had a dude do a fantastic job of "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's "Turandot."  Yes, I admit it, I like some Opera, though I've never actually seen one.

Your new movie choices for this weekend are "The Love Guru" and "Get Smart," but, if either of those movies give you pause, and you want a big blast of action-enjoyment, at least at the movies, and if you haven't seen it yet, go and see "Iron Man" while you can, on the big screen, while you are just waiting for "Hancock" to come out over the 4th of July weekend.

Happy listening!

Stu & The Dude's Weekend Wrap-Up! Stay Awake on a Plane, Horton, DVD's, and Child Rearing.

By: The Dude on the Right
I give Stu Gotz a live listen to how I might want to start our podcasts, but with him being here for our "Stu & The Dude Weekend Wrap-Up!" podcast, he just thinks it might make you not listen because who wants to hear a reason why I don't fall asleep on an airplane.  The new opening is inspired by a web site called "Wallstrip," but after telling Stu another reason I don't sleep on airplanes, and Stu telling how he can't not help but sleep on an airplane, we get into the heart of the podcast with both of our takes on "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!"  Movie time discussion then turns into raising and disciplining children, and I tell Stu about my DVD Sunday because Stu's weekend was pretty boring.

For what it's worth, by the time you read this synopsis, Erin Go Bra-less, and if there isn't another podcast before this weekend, and you are a Christian, Happy Easter!  If not, I hope you can at least save some money during the Easter Weekend sales.

Thanks for listening!

RIP Jeff Healey, GWS Eddie Van Halen, Oops Jimmy Buffett, and Oprah.

By: The Dude on the Right
A lot of this podcast is about music, the rest is about Oprah and her Big Give, and since Stu Gotz and I couldn't get together, well, I'm flying solo.

First off, I was saddened to learn of the passing of a fantastic guitarist, Jeff Healey, and if you don't know who he is his most noteworthy song was called "Angel Eyes," and if you think it looks weird in the picture of how he plays guitar, well, he was blind, this is the way he learned, and like I said, he was fantastic.  Happily I got to see him and his band back in 1995, at The Skyline Stage in Chicago.  Jeff Healey, R.I.P.

Another guitarist I talk about is Eddie Van Halen, and with the tons of rumors flying around today, the official Van Halen website doesn't give too many answers, only that the Spring tour isn't cancelled, only that some dates are being rescheduled.

And in other music news I talk about how I might not be seeing Jimmy Buffett this summer because I'm an idiot.

Finally, because as much as I poke fun, you still have to give credit to Oprah because she is one smooth businesswoman and now had the highest rated show last Sunday with "Oprah's Big Give."  I hate her.  I love her.  I envy her.  My Oprah feelings are so conflicted.

Thanks for listening!

Stu & The Dude's Weekend Wrap-Up! At the Movies, Watching the Grammy's, A Song Not for The Grammy's, and The Dude isn't a Pimp.

By: The Dude on the Right
Maybe it took the bone-chilling cold, or maybe the threat of snow, or just the never-ending winter, but whatever the reason Stu Gotz and I were able to get back together for a new episode of “Stu & The Dude’s Weekend Wrap-Up!” podcast. First off, I won’t apologize for offending anyone with some of our content for this podcast because it is labeled “Mature,” but Stu is pissed at the ongoing writer’s strike and he can’t take it anymore. Meanwhile I give some quick Grammy Award talk followed by spotlighting a song by Riskay – The Drama Queen, which most likely has no shot in hell at winning a Grammy Award. And no, I’m not a pimp.

But as is usually the case with our weekend wrap-up we also talk about movies. Stu mentions his seeing the movie “Atonement” in the theater and catching “The Nanny Diaries” via his Netflix queue, while I get to break the news to him that the Paris Hilton movie “The Hottie & The Nottie” didn’t do too well at the theaters, but I did see “Fool’s Gold” and “Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show….” We also discuss “The Spiderwick Chronicles” because Stu’s kids want to see the flick. It is rated PG, but Stu wonders just how kid-friendly it is especially after his disaster in letting his kids see “Zathura.”

Here's for hope and thanks for listening!

Canada Better Watch Out, Journey's Got a New Singer, and Grammy Award Nominees.

By: The Dude on the Right
As I'm flying solo for this podcast, on the day before the day that will live in infamy, I would like welcome our international readers and listeners where my stats are showing that the folks in Ireland are close to overtaking our fans in Canada, and our Australia visitors better watch out for the folks in Argentina.  Don't worry, U.S. readers, you've got the #1 spot pretty much locked up for a while.

Also for this podcast, in the spirit of my interrupting Stu Gotz while he was listening to the radio about the announcement, the band Journey has a new lead singer, and you're not going to believe who it is!  To find out you're just going to have to take some time and listen, especially, since today, as of 4:50 PM, CST, the page 1 Google listings are wrong if you search for "Lead singer of Journey."

And continuing with the music theme for this podcast I had to resurrect my parody of "Hey There Delilah," simply titled "I Hate Delilah," because The Plain White T's version got nominated for a couple of Grammy Awards.  And sure, I could have hipped you to some of the more popular Gammy Nominations, but your not going to believe who was nominated in the "Surround Sound Album" category.  Yup, you'll just have to listen to the podcast to find out.  And if you think a couple of past Presidents of the United States of America or a person running for President have a chance in the "Spoken Word Album" category, well, we'll have to see if Oprah Winfrey puts her support behind someone near and dear to her heart or someone she has helped raise millions of dollars.  The Grammy's have the chance to be even more exciting than the Presidential race, especially in the "Banda Album" and "Choral Performance" categories, unless, well, I suppose Mitt Romney shows us his Mormon Underwear and Dennis Kucinich has photos of a UFO.

Thanks for listening!

A Parody of "Hey There Delilah," Baggy Pant Laws, and What's Up With Rick Ankiel?

By: The Dude on the Right
Due to a weird week this podcast is being posted on a Saturday night, and as much as I am almost proud of my parody song titled “I Hate Delilah,” obviously a take on “Hey There Delilah” by The Plain White T’s, I can’t help but wonder the ammunition of humiliation my niece, nephew, and just about anyone else out there in internet-land now have on me. If I ever run for Governor or President this podcast might be the one to really come back and bite me in the ass. Ahhh, you know what? So what! Chicken Butt! I’m just hoping this podcast will finally get the songs out of my head.

In other podcast topics I wonder about Rick Ankiel of the St. Louis Cardinals, also wonder if Eddie Griffin might have been set up at a Black Enterprise Magazine event, and also wonder why towns are trying to put a stupid law on their books by banning droopy pants – Plumbers be damned!

Thanks for listening.

Seeing the Wienermobile, Chickening Out, and Obsessed with Tay Zonday and "Chocolate Rain."

By: The Dude on the Right
On a day when you need a smile there is nothing that might bring yourself a smile quicker than the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.  It was there, at the grocery store where I needed to pick up some grocery type stuff up, so I took some photos with my iPhone.  But as happy as seeing the Wienermobile made me, at the end of the day I know I chickened out, because the giant wiener was there as a promotion for the "Sing the Jingle" competition, and I didn't sing the jingle.

And I was also sad that I figured out how I would have actually sang the "Bologna Song," thanks to Tay Zonday and his singing "Chocolate Rain," later, as I was driving back to the dude-pad, and although I didn't sing it for the Oscar Mayer wiener folks, I sing it for you here, during this podcast.

Wienermobiles and "Chocolate Rain" aside, here in Chicago, though, Angelina Jolie's showing up in town seems to be the most important thing in the world right now because the Chicago Sun-Times said so.

So this podcast gives you a plethora of things, like the Oscar Mayer wiener song, my singing, Tay Zonday talk, and Angelina Jolie.  What more could you want?

Thanks for listening.

A Review of Bon Jovi's "Have A Nice Day" and World Series Musings.

By: The Dude on the Right
A review of Bon Jovi's latest CD, "Have A Nice Day," is my latest podcast, and it's probably a train-wreck, so, I hope, like most disasters, you can't help but listen to the entire thing.  My talking, I believe, is over-modulated (meaning slightly distorted), but I think the music sounds alright.  I've got to work on that a bit.  I also talked some about the World Series and some of the celebrities that showed up at The Joan, since I'm pretty sure I figured a decent way to get audio from my TIVO to be able to be included in a podcast.  The questions are still out there, though, like is Bernie Mac really a huge White Sox fan, and how do you really pronounce Dan Castellaneta?

As always, I welcome your comments.
