Scary Movie 2
A Movie Review

MPAA Rated - R

It's 1:22 Long

A Review by
The Dude on the Right
Most of the critics seemed to have hated this movie. Most of the critics probably hated the original, too. But again, maybe, I’m too easily amused, or maybe it’s just that I’m expecting to get what I’m paying for, and for that I can usually seem to enjoy a movie more than the average critic. Sure, sometimes I get surprised, sometimes the end movie doesn’t live up to even half the hype the film had gotten, and sometimes the movie just ends up totally sucking, but I can find humor in most things and for "Scary Movie 2", well, I found humor in most things, all except the basketball sequence. I got exactly what I expected and that left me with a great movie-going experience.

"Scary Movie 2" opens with us getting to see Hell House. In Hell House we’ve got a girl possessed, much like "The Exorcist," and we are quickly reminded that Scary Movie is about poking fun at other movies. The opening scene gives us a spinning head, a girl peeing enough to refill the oceans, and a great vomit scene. And the movie takes on a funny journey from there.

The underlying story for "Scary Movie 2" is that the college professor tricks six students to spend the weekend in a haunted house. The professor and his assistant want the kids to bring out the ghosts so that they can document life after death. You can figure that for the good professor, well, things don’t go that well, and what we get is sight gag after sound gag after drug gag after boob gag – just what you want and expect.

Multiple movies get poked at, included "Mission: Impossible 2," complete with doves, "Charlie’s Angels," complete with slow, flying through the air scenes, and tattoos on friend’s backs ala "Dude, Where’s My Car?" You also get poking fun at Monica’s blue dress, The Weakest Link, and a foul-mouthed parrot. Who doesn’t like a foul-mouthed parrot?

Going into the movie any more deeply is like trying to analyze, well, the original "Scary Movie." It is just something that doesn’t need to be done. All you really need to know is that in paying your money for "Scary Movie 2" you will get exactly what you expect. If you hated the first one and haven’t had a brain transplant since, stay away, but if you were one of the millions of folks who laughed your ass off, well, "Scary Movie 2" just continues the laughs where they left off. Don’t try to analyze it, just enjoy the humor for what it is and move on. It’s 4 stars out of 5 for "Scary Movie 2."

That’s it for this one! I’m The Dude on the Right!! L8R!!!
