The career of Eddie Murphy has been, in the history of
actors, kind of a strange one. There’s the Saturday Night Live days,
the “Delirious” days, a hilarious force in a “Trading Spaces,”
“Beverly Hills Cop” and “Coming to America” days, and then things
start to get weird. Suddenly Eddie becomes more famous for his family
fare than his raunchy fare, and if it’s a family film (“Pluto
Nash” not really included), Eddie Murphy is box office gold, just take
a look at the numbers for his “Doctor Dolittle”, “Shrek”, and “Daddy
Day Care” days. Anyway, along comes Eddie in another family film, this
one from the Disney folks and it’s called “The Haunted Mansion.” Does it
look any good? Well, it’s looks like a fun family movie, and that’s
what Eddie is now known for.
Pretty much the story is how some a normal family gets stuck in a
haunted mansion, hence the movie title. Eddie Murphy play a real
estate agent hired to sell the house, he brings along his family, and
they soon learn the secret of the haunted mansion – it probably has
something to do about the importance of family.
As much as I miss Eddie in his older days, somehow he is able to
pull off the family fair. This one looks kinda funny for the youngins,
and the parents are always looking for a good film for the entire
family. This might be one of them.
