| Kiddie Movie: |
Uh..... No. This ain't Natural Born Killers but it ain't
Dumbo either.
|
| Date Movie: |
Yeah. I think so. It has enough action to interest guys
and a goofy love angle to appease the girls.
|
| Gratuitous Sex: |
There are some great sex scenes but unfortunately Cameron
does not bare all.
|
| Gratuitous
Violence: |
Like I said... This ain't Natural Born Killers but it
ain't Dumbo either. |
| Action: |
Some suspense moments - like where the hell did the body
go? |
| Laughs: |
A lot of sublime, low-key humor. |
| Memorable
Scene: |
In my opinion it would have to be the bathroom floor fuck
scene, but others might say it is when Sam, after shooting
his boss, decides to shoot open a safe that is already
unlocked and takes a ricochet in the arm. Throughout the
entire move your just sitting there thinking about what a
dumb-ass loser Sam is. |
| Memorable
Quote: |
That's a tough one. I'd have to say it is when Jjacks
tells Sam he didn't move the dead body and everyone in the
audience is saying "Huh? What the!?!" |

Feeling Minnesota is a twisting and
turning murder mystery/comedy with a screwy love plot thrown in. It's
like Fargo meets Blue Velvet and they all go to The Rivers Edge and
get drunk (by getting "drunk" I mean to say it is not as refined as
the a-for-mentioned movies). I had hoped Cameron would be playing the
title role of Minnesota and Keanu would be feeling her up.
Unfortunately that was not the case. The movie supposedly takes it's
name from a Soundgarden song and is actually intended to be a slam.
Well the characters in this movie are well portrayed losers deserving
all the insults they get.
Sitting with one seat between me and Big Cooter (I don't want
people thinking we're like "together"), Cooter and I laughed and
shook our heads saying "huh?" throughout the whole movie. I guess the
people around us didn't care too much for Cooter and I thinking out
loud because were told to "Shush up!" to which Cooter replied "Fuck
off! It's a matinee."
What Cooter and I were talking about was the fact that this was
one screwed up twisting and turning movie. We liked that! We liked it
a lot! Feeling Minnesota is about loser, petty crooks, tired of life
and just wanting a fresh start. Jjacks (Reeves) has spent more time
in jail than he cares for and doesn't want to go back. This is a hard
thing to do when you have to steal a car and rob a gas station to buy
your brother a wedding gift, fuck the bride on a bathroom floor after
the wedding, run off with the bride three days later, and then have
your brother frame you for a murder.
Jjacks loser brother Sam (D'Onofrio) is a greasy, loser accountant
whose dream is to get married and buy a 2700 square foot house. Being
a greasy accountant, he's not that big with the chicks. So he skims
off the top from a local mobster, blames it on a pretty blonde
stripper, gets the mobster to force her to marry him (to forgive her
debt), and puts a down payment on a house. The only problem is that
his new bride has other plans for life and runs off.
The pretty blonde stripper bride is Freddie (Diaz) and all she
wants to do is become a Vegas show girl and eat at $4 buffets. She's
happy to use anyone she can to obtain her dream, but this is a hard
thing to do when you're pimped off to a loser accountant and later
left for dead in a ditch by the man you ran off with.
Sounds like a complicated movie? Actually, it really flows quite
well. You're never quite lost during the movie but you are left
saying "What the? But I thought..." all the time. Cooter and I also
joked about the fact that Keanu always seems to get parts where he
plays a dimwit. Even when he played an FBI Agent in Point Break or a
cop in Speed his character seemed a little light on the gray matter.
We're beginning to wonder if he is being type cast or maybe he's not
acting.
Cooter and I were also quite opinionated about the... Hmmm... How
to say it? The bathroom fuck scene with Jjacks and Freddie at the
wedding of Freddie and Sam. Then there was the front seat of the
parked car fuck scene. I personally would have liked to seen some T&A
in these scenes but they were good none the less.
I liked Feeling Minnesota. It's no Pulp Fiction but is funny and
smart none the less. I give Feeling Minnesota 4 out of 5 stars. I'm Stu
Gotz. 'nuff said. |
